First Christmas cactus of the season

We are lucky to live in this big beast of a house. We have tons of windows facing south, east and west, and several rooms where there are rarely any lights turned on at night. Christmas cacti bloom eagerly with little extra effort on my part. No putting them in closets; it is already cool, they have everything a succulent could ask for.

My mom had a Christmas cactus and it was always such a treat to see the first bloom, it meant that the holidays were soon to be upon us. Mom was Mrs. Santa, always getting just the right gifts for everyone, decorating the house to perfection, making candy and festive treats. I really miss her during the holidays. Thanks for giving me a little of her back.

Thanks for visiting dmm, sorry about your mom. My grandma was the Christmas cactus grower in our family and I still have one of her plants.

Lucky you - I can never get them to bloom again - even putting them in the dark and all. Lovely color, too!

Hi Laura, Because I can get them to bloom again I buy them after they have bloomed for fifty cents or so and mix several in a big pot. Often they turn out pretty.
